The Royal India, Albert Rd, Southsea
I noticed a new Indian restaurant on Albert Rd this week. Well, it’s in place of an old new one, if you see what I mean (I’m not sure how any newbies survive on Albert Rd now). The Royal India though has a strange claim; the ONLY Indian restaurant in Portsmouth!
Apparently , this is true. All the others are variations on the theme from other ethic groups.
With family visiting for the Easter Weekend it may have been a risky to try a new one but with this claim to fame I thought it worth the shot.
I was please to see that it was already listed on iTakeout.co.uk which meant ordering was made easy and I didn’t need to go hunting for cash as I could pay online. We placed a fairly large order for 5 people and the food arrived with complimentary bottle of wine ahead of the quoted 45mins.
The potions were of good size. Not the usual belly busting servings of rice but certainly more than enough. I went for a Garlic Chilli Chicken which was satisfyingly spicy. The source was individual; not a one source fits all approach here that you get in a lots of places.
A good helping of Bombay Potatoes on the site rounded off the meal.
There was also the customary free papadam’s and salad which were fine.
All in all a great first experience. Certainly one of the better takeaways on Albert Rd. I will definitely explore the menu further on future occasions.

Last week we went The Royal India Restaurant for dine in, met with Chef Khan, who is owner & main chef of this Restaurant, He explain why they said “ONLY INDIAN RESTAURANT IN PORTSMOUTH” CHEF KHAN is over 20 years India’s top 5 Star hotel’s experianced Master Chef,
Many restaurant claim their Chef came from India’s 5 star hotel, but mostly it’s not true, therefor Chef Khan printed his picture in front page of takeway Menu & personaly met with most customer for prove that he is genuine,
for my experiane of dine in is a really G R E A T FOOD, good presentation with mouthwatering taste,
wel done Chef Khan, we never forget your service.

“John Smith”? Sounds like Chef Khan’s been writing his own reviews!
Will check it out anyway as Jaipur has disappeared from itakeout.
